Where We Do Tree Trimming

The village first — King Street, Maple Avenue, the streets behind them, and out along Park Avenue past the fairgrounds.

Then the old township, which is most of our tree trimming by area if not by count: Bishopsgate, Harley, Cathcart, Kelvin, New Durham, Fairfield Plain, Northfield, Mount Vernon, and east toward Brantford.

A good deal of our tree trimming happens on working farms, and that suits the way we operate. More room, better access, and owners who generally know exactly which tree they are worried about and why.

Tree Trimming Learned On Sand

This is where the tree trimming knowledge actually came from.

Tree trimming is not something a book teaches you. This crew learned it on the trees that actually stand on this ground — open-grown oaks with low forks, lane maples planted in rows a century ago, windbreak lines carrying crowns built for shelter that has since gone, and drought-stressed yard trees holding more deadwood than their owners expect.

The ash changed everything, as it did across the whole watershed. Since its arrival in 2010 a substantial slice of every week's tree trimming has gone on trees no longer safe to ascend.

What We Think About Trees And Tree Trimming

Keeping a tree beats replacing it nearly every time, and most of what we end up removing could have been saved by earlier tree trimming.

Topping is not tree trimming and it is not a service we sell. What it amounts to is harm you have paid for, and the answer stays no even when the request is explicit.

Oaks get their tree trimming in winter here. Oak wilt is real, it moves on beetles that come to fresh wounds in spring, and the oaks on this sand plain are the trees this landscape was named for. We will postpone a job rather than risk one.

Take one out, put one in. There is a nursery growing watershed stock on Wight Road; there is no excuse locally for planting the wrong thing.

How A Tree Trimming Job Runs

Pricing waits for a crew member on the ground beneath the tree itself. Photographs will not do it, and neither will a phone description.

Written scope up front: which trees, which limbs, how much, the fate of the debris, and a plain list of exclusions.

Everything is laid out before a saw is started, and put back before the last vehicle pulls off the property.

And you get told when work is not needed. The occasional lost booking is a price worth paying for that.

The Tree Trimming Kit

Rope and harness for most of the tree trimming.

Bucket work where the timber will not carry a person, and crane work where neither climbing nor sectional lowering is on the table. Between them, dead ash generates the majority of that work.

Chipper and grinder ride with the crew, which is why the garden is empty when we go rather than stacked for a return trip.
